Angels

We have all heard references to “better angels” prompting a spirit of communion, noble action, and compassion. Sometimes though, they seem scarce and elusive. As we look around at the circumstances that we and our neighbors are facing you can’t help but look up and wonder where they are.
I have learned what matters most is not perfection, but presence—and that time spent waiting for better angels could be used to celebrate the 'lesser' ones, ordinary and flawed, who show up no matter what that inspire us every day.
The ones that pay it forward. The ones that carry groceries, hold doors, or give up seats for folks that look like they could use a break. The ones that smile at little children so that they know that there is kindness and acceptance in the world. The ones that donate. The ones that volunteer. The ones that speak up for others with shaking voices, or link arms to protect their neighbors. The ones that have a willingness to learn, insight to consider, and the courage to change their minds.
It is my prayer that you will not defer goodness to a better angel when needs persist. I hope that you will commit to being one, wherever and whenever you get the chance.
'Until every shelf is full,
Adrienne
